Klaatu's Sphere Denied Simple Physics?

CMIIW, but at first, in the security briefing, all the scientist were being told that the speed of the unknown space object is 3x10^7 mmph (if I remembered it right).

Now, that was just a fraction of the speed of light, around 4,5% C.

Oh yeah, I forgot. I'm talking about the latest movie in which Keanu Reeves played, "The Day The Earth Stood Still" (2008).

Remember when they thought that the object will hit New York and the countdown already reached 00:00:00 but there was still no impact? Apparently the sphere where Klaatu and Gort are passengers applied some braking mechanism to slow it down (which is a great wonder since there is no propellant or gears visible in any sort to do it). But still, it bug me to see that such huge sphere entering the earth atmosphere -- where surely the friction with the air surely heating it up -- and landed in Central Park(?) without noticeable signs of heat.

I mean, surely that kind of mass and with the speed it entered earth, the sphere's surface should be hot enough to cook eggs on it in mere seconds. But since it certainly alien technology and far more advanced, they surely had found way to eliminate this problem.

I wonder what are those material on the sphere's surface.

Conclusion: Alien technology are superior than ours.
